  • Red wine and garlic give the gravy a real depth of flavour
  • That lovely, subtle sweetness comes from one of our favourite ingredients: a little redcurrant jelly

Try it with:

  • Our Peas & Leeks are a great, no-fuss addition.
  • Pickled veg goes surprising well with Shepherd’s pie, cutting through the richness.
  • Get fancy and make your own pickled red cabbage or keep it simple and add a tablespoon of common-or-garden pickle from the fridge.

How We Make It At Our Kitchen

Shepherd’s Pie has some serious rock ‘n’ roll credentials: Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones often requests one backstage … and no-one but him is allowed to break the crust! To make our version we braise lamb mince until tender. For the sauce we sauté onions, carrots, celery and garlic with rosemary and thyme, then add a splash of red wine for depth of flavour, lamb stock, tomatoes and redcurrant jelly to bring a little sweetness. It’s all topped with a buttery mashed potato.
